Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Transito (“Transito”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the Transito mobile app, website, and related services.
Information we collect
Account information
You can use Transito with an email account, Google, Apple, or as a guest. Depending on how you sign in, we may receive and store your name, email address, authentication provider, and a unique account identifier. Passwords and third-party sign-in credentials are handled by Firebase Authentication and the relevant sign-in provider; we do not receive your Google or Apple password.
Favourites and settings
We store your favourite bus stops, selected bus services, custom aliases, and app settings so they can be available across your devices. Your saved favourites are private to your account. A favourite includes publicly available bus-stop details, such as the stop’s name, code, address, and coordinates.
Location information
If you grant location permission, Transito uses your device’s precise location to show nearby bus stops, distances, and map features. For nearby-stop searches, your latitude and longitude are sent to the Transito server so it can return nearby stops. We do not store your location in your Transito account or use it to build a history of where you have been.
You can deny or withdraw location permission through your device settings. Some nearby and map features will not work without it.
Usage and technical information
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and improve it. This analytics data is anonymous and is not tied to your Transito account. We do not send PostHog your name, email address, or Transito account identifier. PostHog assigns a random identifier to your app installation so that events from the same installation can be grouped together.
Analytics may include screen views, events such as sign-up method, password-reset requests and account deletion, app and device information, IP address, and diagnostic information. Transito does not use this information for third-party advertising.
When you use our website or servers, our hosting providers and server logs may also process technical information such as your IP address, request time, requested route, browser or device type, and error information. Requests for nearby stops may include the coordinates described above, and place searches include the search terms you submit.
Information stored only on your device
Transito stores some preferences and up to ten recent searches locally on your device. This information is not synced to your Transito account and can be cleared in the app or by removing the app’s data.
How we use information
We use information to:
- provide bus arrival, nearby-stop, map, search, favourites, and settings features;
- create, authenticate, support, and secure accounts;
- sync your favourites and settings across devices;
- operate, troubleshoot, and protect Transito and its servers; and
- understand usage and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information.
When we share information
We share information only as needed to operate Transito, comply with law, or protect the service and its users. Our service providers include:
- Google Firebase, for authentication and cloud database services
- Google and Apple, when you choose their sign-in services
- PostHog, for product analytics
- hosting and infrastructure providers, which include Cloudflare and Google Cloud
- transport and mapping data providers, when required to answer a search or retrieve transport information
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. They may process information in countries other than Singapore.
We may also disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with a legal obligation, enforce our rights, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect someone’s safety.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account information, favourites, and settings while your account is active. You can either delete your account from within the Transito app or sending a request through the Account Deletion Form. Doing so deletes your Transito authentication account and its synced favourites and settings.
Operational logs and analytics records may remain for a limited period after account deletion where needed for security, reliability, legal compliance, or aggregate analysis. You can contact us to request access to or deletion of other personal information associated with you. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No internet service or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
Transito is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can delete it.
Third-party links and services
Transito may link to app stores, maps, websites, or other third-party services. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Transito changes. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the date shown below. Material changes may also be communicated in the app where appropriate.
